Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then located multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.
An important official said the incident made him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
