A man who laced treats with sleeping medication and distributed them to youngsters at a youth camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two young males who were nine and ten years old.

The defendant was detained after eight minors and one adult became sick at the location in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

However, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

The defendant was kept in jail prior to a subsequent court date on 28 November.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, described the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She said his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer camp which he ran.

Ruben conducted a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor explained, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She told the court the defendant had conducted this practice with the boys "repeatedly", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She explained the defendant had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had concerns in recently.

The legal representative added: "Recently" his stepson had worries about the situation, with valid cause.

"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC said items including baby oil, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the police about his concerns.

She stated Ruben continued to engage in the "treat game" with six youngsters that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"The police had not gone out by that stage," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.

Mrs Prior stated the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson contacted the law enforcement once more.

She stated the defendant then conducted the "candy game" in a space of five minors.
